Old Town Hall
When town officials decided the town offices had outgrown Gridley’s store (Today’s Fire District Bldg) they decided to build the “imposing new Town Hall.” It’s built on the site of The Town Meeting House of 1772. This building was erected in 1894 and housed the police station and 2 jail cells in the basement, town offices on the main floor, and large ballroom, theater, basketball court, and probate court upstairs.
One set of theater seats still survives. The stage also contained a trap door to help actors appear/disappear. The ticket booth was located downstairs.
